In 2019, the Shanghai Urban Space Art Season (SUSAS) centered its activities along a 5.5-kilometer stretch of the Yangpu Riverside, under the theme “Encounter.” The event featured 20 permanent, site-specific public artworks created by both domestic and international artists, curated by Art Pioneer Studio (APS) in collaboration with the Shanghai Municipal Planning and Natural Resources Bureau and the Yangpu District Planning and Natural Resources Bureau.
These installations were thoughtfully integrated into the natural and cultural environment of each location, transforming the Yangpu Riverside into a lasting artistic landscape. Additionally, an open call invited global artists to contribute works at five distinct sites, including the Shipyard Welding Dock and Water Plant Trestle, further enriching the riverside’s cultural tapestry.
