Facade Textile International is proud to announce our collaboration in the creation of “The Amazing Walk,” a groundbreaking installation featured at Milan Design Week 2024. Located in the historic Cortile della Farmacia courtyard at the University of Milan, this innovative structure, designed by MAD architects, exemplifies the fusion of advanced materials and cutting-edge design.

Design and Structure :
The 7.5-meter-height pavilion, inspired by the shape of a mountain, stands as a testament to the possibilities of modern architectural design. Comprising hundreds of triangular elements, the structure is entirely self-supporting and devoid of internal columns, creating an open, inviting space for visitors.

Our Contribution: Aero A to take up three dimensionnal challenges
Our patented Aero A aluminum profile system is a core component of this installation. This self-supporting, pre-assembled, and pre-tensioned solution is engineered to meet the three-dimensional challenges presented by contemporary architectural designs.
Key Features of Aero A Profiles:
- Resistance: Laboratory tests have demonstrated the Aero A system’s exceptional breakout resistance, capable of withstanding up to 4.2 T/ml. This resilience was notably proven during Hurricane Irma in 2017, where installations in Miami emerged unscathed.
- Inertia: The design of Aero A profiles allows for tensioned frames up to 2 meters long without the need for additional reinforcements, providing robust structural integrity.
- Aesthetic and Practical Design: The membrane completely envelops the Aero A profile, making the frame invisible from the exterior. This design ensures no accumulation of plant particles, thereby preventing stains and maintaining the structure’s pristine appearance. Additionally, Aero A profiles enable consistent gap and spacing between frames, accommodating three-dimensional configurations with a ±40 degrees aperture.

Our trusted partner, Maco Technology srl , has used our Aero A profiles to their fullest potential in “The Amazing Walk.” This collaboration highlights the seamless integration of Facade Textile International’s advanced materials with Maco Technology’s expert construction capabilities, ensuring a flawless execution of this ambitious project.
The Role of Serge Ferrari’s FSV 381 Membrane
The pavilion’s functionality and aesthetic appeal are significantly enhanced by Serge Ferrari’s Frontside View 381 membrane. This high-performance textile facade not only boosts the structure’s thermal efficiency by blocking up to 78% of solar heat but also elevates its visual impact. The semi-permeable membrane interacts with light and shadow, creating a dynamic and immersive experience for visitors, and contributing to significant energy savings and enhanced thermal comfort.
A Space of Connection and Imagination
“The Amazing Walk” is more than just an architectural marvel; it is a space designed to foster connection and imagination. By blurring the boundaries between the built environment and nature, the installation invites visitors to explore and engage with their surroundings in new and meaningful ways. At night, the pavilion transforms with the addition of mist and strategic lighting, enhancing its ethereal presence.
